THE COMMUNITY

Just northeast of Hartford, the suburban tranquility of South Windsor is situated midway between New York City and Boston and 20 miles from Springfield, Massachusetts. The Connecticut River bounds this primarily residential town on its western border, adding another dimension of beauty to its gracious homes and quiet streets. First settled in 1633, history abounds in South Windsor, peacefully co-existing in harmony with today’s healthy commercial community and successful hi-tech industry. The 28.5 square mile town has a population of approximately 25,000 people and is governed by a Town Council and Town Manager.

EDUCATIONAL & CULTURAL FACILITIES

“Educate all children to their fullest potential” is the motto of South Windsor’s public school system, which consists of five Elementary Schools, Timothy Edwards Middle School and South Windsor High School. The near proximity of the Connecticut State Capitol, Hartford, enriches the community’s cultural and educational life, adding a wealth of cosmopolitan offerings to the more intimate pleasures of this smaller town. In South Windsor itself, attend Summer concerts at Nevers Park.

RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

South Windsor’s abundant water and fertile land create a haven where the Connecticut River, the Connecticut Valley and green hills merge into a landscape of rural beauty that is protected by the town’s open space program. Aquatic recreation beckons on the river, or take advantage of the exceptional and extensive parks, nature trails, golf courses, pools, tennis courts and ball fields available in the area. The town’s Veteran’s Memorial Park Pool has won a National Award for innovative architecture and design along with being the largest man-made pool in New England.

TRANSPORTATION

Sixteen miles from Bradley International Airport, South Windsor rests on US Route 5, which connects the town to Routes 218/291 and to Interstate Route 91. It offers easy access to Interstate 84 as well. Freight rail service also links the town to the entire Northeast.
